As the dreams of aspiring astronauts evolve into ambitions of becoming influential content creators, this course positions students at the forefront of digital media. Through hands-on projects, theoretical knowledge, and practical applications, students will explore the details of creating compelling content that resonates with audiences across the globe. This course is an invitation for students to transform their creative dreams into tangible skills, setting the foundation for a future where they can lead, innovate, and inspire in the digital age. Our curriculum is tailored to meet the demands of today's dynamic careers within the Arts, A/V Technology, and Communications Career Cluster, helping students dive deep into the essentials of media production.

This course, designed to meet the evolving needs of students interested in digital arts and communications, benefits from the founder of Garden State Esports, Chris Aviles's insights, making him a key figure for preparing students for dynamic careers in the digital age.

Chris Aviles

Chris Aviles, an educational innovator, founded Garden State Esports (GSE) to blend gaming with learning, transforming New Jersey's educational landscape. His background in education, coupled with a passion for esports, led to GSE's establishment in 2019, fostering skills like teamwork and strategic thinking. Under his leadership, GSE has become the largest scholastic esports league in the U.S., promoting inclusivity and career readiness.

Chris Aviles brings his pioneering spirit in educational esports to develop our "Media Production" course. Leveraging his background, Chris has uniquely contributed to crafting a curriculum that empowers students to excel in digital media. This course harnesses his insights into the evolving aspirations of students, aiming to transform their creative visions into practical skills for the digital age. This unit focuses on expanding student knowledge of media production. This unit will culminate with student-designed projects/presentations created to demonstrate their understanding.

Unit 2 - Applying Media Production Principles

Students will have the opportunity to demonstrate, analyze, and apply their knowledge of media production principles, critiquing their and others' work to improve their skills, with the culminating activity being the creation of a project showcasing mastery of design principles.

Unit 3 - Media Industries

Examining interdependence among industries, students explore business, economics, and artistic and technical aspects.

Unit 4 - Application of ELA

This unit deepens students' understanding of English language arts in media production projects, encompassing composition, document editing, and research skills applied throughout the course in various projects.

Unit 5 - Problem Solving

Focusing on critical thinking and interpersonal skills, this unit emphasizes problem-solving in both group and individual settings, with skills applied across various course projects.

Unit 6 - Efficient Use of Information

Students will learn to obtain, evaluate, and present information efficiently using technology, with skills applied in various projects throughout the course.

Unit 7 - Audio/Video Production

This unit requires students to understand, apply, and demonstrate skills in electronic devices, videography, composition, and data capture, culminating in individual and group projects showcasing audio/video production knowledge.

Unit 8 - Fashion Design

Exploring fashion trends, advertising impact, and advertising strategies, students will create a project representing the design process from idea to market, demonstrating mastery of standards in at least one media.

Unit 9 - Use of Technology Applications

Students will learn technology applications in various media forms, demonstrating mastery working in groups.

Unit 10 - Video Game Design

This unit covers video game design fundamentals, hardware, software, and storage device use, with students producing a group-based video game project showcasing their mastery.

Unit 11 - Animation

Students will learn animation techniques from simple to complex, demonstrating mastery through a student-created project incorporating a minimum of three different animation techniques.

Unit 12 - Communications Strategies

Focusing on written and oral communication strategies, mastery of these constructs is essential for formal and informal presentations, with skills applied in various course projects.

Unit 13 - Careers in Media

Students will explore AAVTC careers, including training, education requirements, certifications, and employability skills, culminating in creating a resume, a letter of interest, and a mock interview.

Unit 14 - Ethical Decision Making

Examining ethical conduct standards, legal requirements, and liabilities, students will demonstrate constructs of confidentiality and digital etiquette in various course projects.

Unit 15 - Safety

This unit explores safety, health, emergency procedures, and rules in media production, applying skills learned throughout the course in various projects.

Unit 16 - Leadership

Students will identify and develop leadership characteristics, explore student leadership activities, and create a profile of their desired leader, culminating in a formal presentation to the class.
